The Willows

This is the second centre we’ve been privileged enough to resource for one of our favourite ELC families

 

A stunning design by Collingridge and Smith Architects on a busy suburban road bordering Wairakei Primary School in Christchurch. So stunning in fact, it had the community talking for months during the build phase guessing what it might be! A beautiful restaurant, or a fabulous design store perhaps? Instead, the Willows is a magical light filled play space for children! The CASA team describe The Willows as a ‘pavilion in the park’, where a modulating, geometric roof forms a tree-like canopy over the building, which is now beautifully framed by Willow trees.

 

Licenced for 130 children from birth to 6 years. The Willows consists of 5 spacious rooms connected by a covered deck and large outdoor play space. The Ministry of Education note in their 2019 ERO report “The calm, uncluttered environment uses natural colours and resources to provide a rich learning experience for children.”
